Anderson County Senior Citizens Center
Group to Offer Free Tax Preparations
The Kentucky Asset Success Initiative (KASI) will operate a free tax preparation site at the Lawrenceburg Campus of the Bluegrass Community and Technical College on March 1. KASI is a coalition of agencies and organizations seeking to empower low and moderate-income Kentuckians through a variety of asset-building programs, organizers said in a news release.
Families with a household income less than $49,000 are eligible for the free tax preparation service. Volunteers will file taxes at the campus at 1500 Bypass North in Lawrencburg from 10 am to 3 pm. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association (KDVA) at 502-209-5382.
In 2009, KASI-operated sites helped 8,478 working families claim tax refunds totaling $8.8 million, generating $18.2 million of economic activity in their communities. These numbers should increase in 2010 because both the maximum income cap and the amount of the credit have increased.
