Senior Companion Program

On May 22nd, 64 seniors citizens who serve as companions to the elderly in Central Kentucky will be honored at a recognition dinner to be held at the Frankfort Country Club. These volunteers serve clients in Anderson, Boyle, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Jessamine, Lincoln, Mercer, Scott and Woodford counties. These volunteers, who serve two to four clients 20 to 40 hours a week, provide assistance and friendship to frail seniors who have difficulty with daily living tasks. In 2013, over 79,000 hours of in-home service were provided to seniors in need. The goals of the Senior Companion Program, which is administered by Blue Grass Community Action Partnership, include keeping seniors living independently in their own homes and providing relief to overburdened family members facing the demands of care giving. For more information on volunteering or receiving services, contact the Senior Companion Program at 1-800-456-6517 or your local senior citizens center.
