Now is the perfect time to give to food bank
centralkynews.comNovember 24, 2010
A little more than three years ago, I recognized the desperate need for a food bank in Danville. It wasn’t easy getting the message across, but eventually my voice was heard due largely to one simple editorial in this wonderful newspaper.
Today, Danville can be proud of the fabulous food bank now being offered to our residents, so desperately needed in these difficult times. The combined efforts of the totally volunteer staff at our food bank are outstanding, along with the help of some very caring college students. These wonderful volunteers even went the extra mile to offer a lovely hot meal the Friday afternoon I stopped by. The kindness and compassion shown was evident in everything they did. The crowd was large and the event went very smoothly.
The holidays are the time for giving. Now would be a perfect time for members of the Danville community to donate to the food bank.
The food bank is located across the street from the Salvation Army Thrift Shop off South Fourth St., or donations can be left at Blue Grass Community Action Agency at 225 West Walnut St. near the parking garage.
Whether you can give only one canned item or a couple of boxes full of food, the thought is still the same. You are showing your support for a wonderful cause and helping to make the holidays a happy time for a large number of struggling families. Do it today, and the joy of giving will remain with you for a long time afterwards.
