The 2014 Open Enrollment period for health insurance has ended. The 2015 Open Enrollment period begins November 15, 2014. You may still apply for coverage if you have certain life events that involve a change in your family or loss of other health coverage. You may also apply for Medicaid at any time. Senior Companion Program

In 2013, over 79,000 hours of in-home service were provided to seniors in need. The goals of the Senior Companion Program, which is administered by Blue Grass Community Action Partnership, include keeping seniors living independently in their own homes and providing relief to overburdened family members facing the demands of care giving. For more information on volunteering or receiving services, contact the Senior Companion Program at 1-800-456-6517 or your local senior citizens center.

BGCAP - Bluegrass Ultra-Transit Service (BUS)

Public transportation services are available from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday and from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday. Public transportation fares are $1.75 per mile, with a $5.00 minimum per trip. Note that BUS ExPress passes remain available. For clients reserving trips beyond the minimum $5.00 amount, those clients can achieve savings of up to 42% with the purchase of a BUS ExPress Pass (Comparison Chart). BUS ExPress Passes are sold only in $20 denominations, and are redeemable for public transportation trips (although they have no cash value). They never expire until used for reserved trips on the BUS Public Transportation system. Get your BUS ExPress Pass HERE.

HSTD Brokerage (Medicaid) Transportation services are also available from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Friday, plus 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday.

BUS Rules for Clients + Riders

NichTran Route

Effective 7/1/2014, NichTran service is offered for the city of Nicholasville, Tuesday through Saturday, as a Deviated Fixed Route available to the general public with and without disabilities. Hours of service and coordinated departure times (based upon coordination, availability, and demand) are generally 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Actual times may vary according to traffic conditions, weather conditions, and so forth.
Effective 7/1/2014, the fare is $2.00 per person per trip OR $1.00 per person per trip for Veterans with a photo ID, with exact change only, as the driver does not carry cash.

NichTran (serving the city of Nicholasville) is a Deviated Fixed Route that will deviate for the general public with and without disabilities. Deviation requests remain available with a 24 hour notice. Deviation requests off the normal route are limited to one-half (½) on one mile.

Driver does not handle rider packages, parcels or personal items. Groceries are allowed for a limited amount of parcels. Children under the age of 13 will require an adult to accompany them.

NichTran Route

Jessamine to Lexington Route

Effective 7/1/2014, the JessLex Route is a deviated fixed route from Nicholasville, KY to Lexington, KY that will deviate for the general public with or without disabilities.  Deviation requests remain available with a 24-hour notice.  Deviation requests off the normal route are limited to one-half (½) on one mile.  Call 1-800-456-6588 for reservations or for information.

Note that only clients taken to Lexington by BUS at some point may be picked up in Lexington for transportation back to Nicholasville (state regulations).

The coordinated routes begin at the Jessamine County Senior Center and continues to Lexington with stops at the KCTCS campus at Commonwealth Stadium, various major medical destinations, Blue Grass Airport, LexTran, and the Greyhound Bus Terminal.

Service is offered Monday through Friday. Hours of service and coordinated departure times (based upon coordination, availability, and demand) from the Jessamine Senior Center are generally at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. Actual times may vary according to traffic conditions, weather conditions, and so forth.

There will be no service on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.  The Bluegrass Ultra-Transit Inclement Weather policy will be followed for this service.  When limited service is called, road conditions will determine whether this service will be cancelled.

Luggage and packages are allowed on these routes but the driver is not allowed to handle personal items (with the exception of luggage).

Riders will need to be at their reserved (24-hour advance notice is required) pickup sites no later than their scheduled departure time.

Effective 7/1/2014, the fare will be $5.00 for per ROUND trip.

Frankfort to Lexington Route

The Frankfort to Lexington Route is an intercity route from Frankfort, KY to Lexington, KY available to the general public with and without disabilities. . This route requires a 24-hour advance notice. Call 1-800-456-6588 for more information. Note that only those clients taken to Lexington by BUS at some point may be picked up in Lexington for transportation back to Frankfort (state regulations).

The pickup point is the Frankfort Transit Stop located on Clinton/Ann Streets. The coordinated route then continues to Lexington with stops at the Blue Grass Airport, LexTran, and the Greyhound Bus Terminal.  Luggage and packages are allowed on these routes but the driver is not allowed to handle personal items (with the exception of luggage).

Service is offered Monday through Friday. Hours of service and coordinated departure times (based upon coordination, availability, and demand) from the Franklin Transit Stop are generally at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Actual times may vary according to traffic conditions, weather conditions, and so forth.

There will be no service on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.  The Bluegrass Ultra-Transit Inclement Weather policy will be followed for this service.  When limited service is called, road conditions will determine whether this service will be cancelled.

The Danville to Lexington Route is an intercity route from Danville, KY to Lexington, KY available to the general public with and without disabilities. This route requires a 24-hour advance notice. CKCATS

CKCATS is a transportation provider in the Kentucky Medicaid Program. The agency is approved as a provider in the BUS/Co-op, Ambulatory Specialty Carrier and Wheelchair Van categories and rates have been established for each category. When your travel is to be authorized through Medicaid/Passport, you need to contact LKLP Community Action at 1-800-245-2826. For Washington County you will need to contact Bluegrass Community Action (BUS) at 1-800-456-6588, at least three (3) days in advance.

Kentucky Relay Service
The Kentucky relay service enables the hearing or speech impaired to call the BUS office to request service or information. To reach the Kentucky Relay Service, TDD users call 1-800-648-6056, voice users call 1-800-648-6057. Give the operator the BUS toll-free telephone number.

The fare for public transit is $1.75 per mile with a $5.00 minimum. For recipients of the Brokerage Programs, the fare is paid through the HSTD contract and the recipient is not charged.

Currently the BUS fleet consists of 76 lift equipped busses.

Cancellation or no-show trips: Clients and passengers need to call the BUS toll-free number (1-800-456-6588) at least 24 hours in advance if they find they must cancel their scheduled trip. Persons who reserve a trip and fail to cancel in advance will be considered a no-show. If there are repeated no-show's, the client's file will be reviewed as to whether further trips will be scheduled.
